What Do You Value?
The Summer Solstice arrives this week.
The longest day of the year.
I've always found it a little strange that we spend months looking forward to it and then, almost immediately, the days begin getting shorter again.
Not that you'll notice.
The tomatoes are still growing. The roses are still blooming. Summer is just getting started.
But the turning point has arrived.
The garden is at that stage now where you can no longer pretend everything is thriving.
Some things are doing beautifully.
Some things need attention.
A few things never really got going.
That's just gardening.
The shift
Cancer season begins this week.
Home.
Family.
Food.
Comfort.
The things we return to when life gets complicated.
Jupiter is settling into Cancer.
Chiron is moving into Taurus.
The astrology has become surprisingly practical.
Current astrological landscape
Sun enters Cancer — Summer Solstice
The Solstice marks the beginning of Cancer season and brings attention toward home, family, belonging, nourishment, and the foundations that support daily life.
Chiron enters Taurus
A longer-term transit that begins a new chapter around value, security, resources, self-worth, and our relationship with the physical world.
Jupiter in Cancer
The focus continues shifting toward creating a life that feels nourishing rather than simply busy.
Venus in Leo
A reminder to leave room for pleasure, creativity, beauty, and enjoyment.
Expanded transit: Chiron enters Taurus
Chiron moves into Taurus this week.
It's one of those transits that probably won't make a lot of headlines, but I suspect we'll be talking about it for years.
Taurus rules many of the practical things that hold a life together.
Money.
Food.
Home.
The body.
The land beneath our feet.
The timing feels fitting.
The garden is at that stage where you can start to see what's working.
The peas are climbing.
The roses are covered in blooms.
The weeds are doing what weeds do.
A few things need more attention than I expected.
A few things probably aren't going to amount to much this year.
That's gardening too.
It's easy to say something matters.
Making room for it is another thing entirely.
Another notable shift: The Summer Solstice
For all the excitement that surrounds the Solstice, I've always found it surprisingly reflective.
Maybe because once it arrives, the waiting is over.
The garden is no longer full of possibility.
It's becoming what it's going to become.
You can start to see what worked.
What didn't.
What might need another season.
What might need a different approach.
Not everything needs to be figured out right now.
You might notice
-
paying closer attention to priorities
-
wanting a little more simplicity
-
spending more time at home
-
thinking differently about money or resources
-
appreciating quality over quantity
-
noticing what keeps drawing your attention
You may recognize yourself in this if you are...
A Taurus
Taking a closer look at what makes you feel secure and supported.
A Cancer
Feeling pulled toward home, family, and the people who matter most.
A Libra
Noticing where your energy goes and whether it feels balanced.
A Scorpio
Questioning old goals, expectations, or definitions of success.
An Aquarius
Rethinking what feels meaningful and what simply fills space.
Not everything deserves equal attention.
A good time to
-
spend time in the garden
-
simplify something
-
enjoy a meal with people you care about
-
review commitments
-
appreciate what is already working
-
resist the urge to add more
