Working From the Edges
This week my big farm chore was clearing the pond beside our house.
It's become almost completely covered in duckweed, and the only way to tackle it right now is with manual labour.
I dream of installing a fancy aeration system one day, but it just isn't in the budget. So for now, I'm tackling it the old-fashioned way—with a long rake and a bit of backbone. I restored another pond on the property a few years ago—the one pictured here—but this one is proving to be a bigger challenge. It's where all the wild ducks gather every winter. They watch for me through the kitchen window every morning, and I head outside with their breakfast before I've even had my coffee.
Working from the edges, I pulled out as much as I could reach with my long rake. By the time I finished, it was starting to look a lot better.
Today it's green and mucky again.
I'll be back out there next week for round two.
While I was standing at the edge of my pond, Saturn was preparing to stand still in the sky.
Worth Noticing
This week's sky feels noticeably quieter.
On July 26, Saturn stations retrograde in Aries. Whenever a planet appears to stand still, astrologers consider its symbolism to become more pronounced. Saturn asks us to look carefully at what we've built, what we've committed to, and whether those commitments still deserve our time and energy.
The lunar nodes also change signs this week, beginning a new eighteen-month cycle. In astrology, they're often seen as markers of our collective direction, pointing toward a gradual shift in the themes we'll be exploring over the months ahead.
Then, on July 29, the Aquarius Full Moon invites us to step back and see things from a different perspective.
Current Astrological Landscape
Saturn isn't a particularly glamorous planet.
It doesn't promise quick results or dramatic breakthroughs.
Instead, it asks quieter questions.
What are you building?
What's worth continuing?
What have you committed yourself to?
And perhaps just as importantly...
What no longer fits the life you're trying to create?
As Saturn begins its retrograde, those questions become harder to ignore.
By midweek, the energy begins to shift. The Aquarius Full Moon offers a little distance. Sometimes we're simply too close to a situation to see it clearly. Looking up, looking outward, or giving ourselves a little breathing room can reveal something we hadn't noticed before.
Expanded Transit
Not every season is about growth.
Some are about refinement.
Saturn rarely asks us to throw everything away and begin again. More often, it encourages us to pause long enough to notice what's working, what isn't, and what deserves our continued effort.
Midweek brings another significant alignment as Jupiter enters the heart of the Sun in Leo in a rare event known as a cazimi. If Saturn has been encouraging careful reflection, Jupiter reminds us not to lose sight of what lights us up. This can be a beautiful time to reconnect with your creativity, trust your gifts, and move toward what feels genuinely meaningful.
At the same time, the lunar nodes quietly begin a new eighteen-month cycle. These shifts are subtle. They don't announce themselves overnight, but they often mark the beginning of a gradual change in where our attention naturally wants to go.
The Aquarius Full Moon widens the lens.
You don't have to solve everything this week.
You may simply notice something you hadn't seen before.
Sometimes that's enough to change what comes next.
