Aborigines are said to have used cajeput extensively for any kind of pain. It is said that cajeput was first mentioned in print in 1876 where it was described as a powerful antiseptic and was used widely in digestive and urinary tract disorders.

History
Therapeutically, cajeput has been used since antiquity in Malaysia and India. It was introduced to Europe in the 17th century, where it was a very rare and expensive oil.
