Old Stories
I'm writing this on October 10 2026
Or 10/10/10, if you're into numerology.
October is the tenth month, today is the tenth, and 2026 adds up to 10 (2 + 0 + 2 + 6).
In numerology, the number 10 is associated with new beginnings, independence, leadership and the start of a new cycle. And because each 10 reduces to 1, the symbolism is particularly focused on stepping into something new.
It's also a New Moon in Libra today, which brings relationships, partnerships and our sense of fairness into the picture.
And with Venus, Libra's ruling planet, currently retrograde in Scorpio, there's another question worth considering.
What do we actually believe we're worth?
I've had quite the week.
A good one, actually. One opening a door full of possibilities. But it that has left me thinking about the stories we tell ourselves, particularly the ones about what we're capable of and what's possible for us. Stories about self love and self worth.
It's remarkable how easily an opinion we formed about ourselves years ago can become something we accept as fact.
Maybe we weren't experienced enough. Maybe we didn't have the education, the money or the right connections. Maybe somebody told us we couldn't do something, and for whatever reason, we believed them.
And then we carried that belief around for the next twenty or thirty years without bothering to check whether it was still true.
Meanwhile, we've been working, learning, making mistakes, figuring things out and becoming entirely different people.
But somehow, our stories of ourselves hasn't kept up.
That's what I find interesting about this 10/10/10 business.
Not the idea that some magical doorway has opened and everything we've ever wanted is about to fall into our laps.
Wouldn't that be nice.
But the possibility that a new beginning might have less to do with changing our circumstances and more to do with changing what we believe we're capable of. Manifestation baby.
Because sometimes the biggest obstacle isn't a lack of opportunity.
It's the story we've been telling ourselves about why that opportunity couldn't possibly be meant for us.
Worth Noticing | October 11–17, 2026
October 11–17 — Venus Retrograde in Scorpio
Venus continues its retrograde through Scorpio, bringing money, relationships, trust and personal values into focus. It's also a time to reconsider how we measure our own worth, particularly when our circumstances have changed but our beliefs about ourselves haven't.
October 15 — Sun Sextile Jupiter
The Sun in Libra forms a favourable aspect with Jupiter in Leo. This is one of the more encouraging transits of the week, associated with confidence, opportunity, recognition and expansion. Something that once seemed beyond our reach may deserve another look.
October 15 — Pluto Stations Direct in Aquarius
After moving retrograde since May, Pluto changes direction. Pluto deals with power, control and transformation, while Aquarius brings organizations, communities, innovation and collective structures into the picture. Changes that have been developing beneath the surface may begin moving forward.
October 16 — Mars Trine Saturn
Mars in Leo forms a supportive trine with Saturn in Aries. Mars brings ambition and initiative. Saturn brings experience, discipline and structure. Together, they favour taking an idea seriously enough to figure out how to make it work.
There's a noticeable shift in this week's astrology. We're still questioning things under Venus retrograde, but Jupiter is encouraging us to consider possibilities we might previously have dismissed.
And Mars and Saturn are reminding us that thinking bigger doesn't mean abandoning common sense.
Current Astrological Landscape
There's an interesting contradiction in the sky this week.
Venus is retrograde in Scorpio, encouraging us to reconsider what we value, how we measure success and what we believe we're worth.
Meanwhile, Jupiter and Mars are both in Leo.
Leo isn't particularly interested in playing small. It's associated with creativity, leadership, visibility and the confidence to put something of ourselves into the world.
Jupiter expands whatever it touches, while Mars brings the motivation to act.
So we have one part of the sky asking us to look back and question our assumptions, while another is encouraging us to look forward and consider something bigger.
And that can be uncomfortable.
Because sometimes we become so accustomed to what we do that we stop recognizing its value.
We know every mistake we've made, every shortcut that didn't work, every expense we couldn't afford and every occasion when we had absolutely no idea what we were doing.
We remember the beginning.
Other people see what we've built since then.
And those can be two very different pictures.
Saturn, still retrograde in Aries, adds another consideration. Confidence is useful, but it doesn't replace experience, planning or the willingness to take responsibility.
The encouraging part is that this week's aspects suggest we don't necessarily have to choose between ambition and caution.
We can be excited about a possibility and still ask difficult questions.
In fact, we probably should.
Expanded Transit
Sun Sextile Jupiter — October 15
On October 15, the Sun in Libra forms a sextile with Jupiter in Leo.
In astrology, a sextile is generally considered a favourable aspect, one that creates opportunities for cooperation and progress. Unlike a trine, which can feel relatively effortless, a sextile is traditionally associated with opportunities that benefit from some initiative.
The Sun represents identity, confidence and the way we express ourselves.
Jupiter is associated with growth, opportunity, optimism and the willingness to look beyond our current circumstances.
And with Jupiter in Leo, there's an added emphasis on creativity, leadership and being recognized for what we bring to the table.
This is an interesting transit to have while Venus is retrograde.
Because Venus isn't just about romance and relationships. It also deals with value.
What we value in other people.
What we're willing to pay for.
What we believe our work is worth.
And, perhaps most importantly, what we believe about ourselves.
There's a peculiar thing that happens when we've been doing something for a long time.
We become very good at seeing what's wrong with it.
We know which parts need improving, where we've made mistakes and how much work remains unfinished.
And because we're so close to it, we can lose sight of how far we've actually come.
Someone looking from the outside doesn't necessarily see all those shortcomings.
They see the result.
They see the knowledge, experience and work that have accumulated over the years.
And sometimes their assessment is considerably more generous than our own.
That doesn't mean they're automatically right.
But it might be worth considering that we're not always the most objective judges of our own abilities.
The following day, Mars in Leo forms a trine with Saturn in Aries.
I like the timing of these two aspects together.
Jupiter can open our thinking to a new possibility, but Mars and Saturn bring us back to the practical questions.
What would it actually take?
Do we have the experience?
What resources would we need?
What would have to change?
Those are useful questions. They're very different from immediately deciding something is impossible.
And with Pluto stationing direct in Aquarius on October 15, there's another layer involving power, independence and the structures we build around our lives.
Pluto's changes tend to unfold over years, not days. But its change of direction fits the broader theme of reconsidering where we've placed our limitations.
There's no guarantee that an opportunity is a good one simply because it arrives.
Sometimes the answer really is no.
But there's a difference between turning something down because it doesn't make sense and turning it down because we can't imagine ourselves doing it.
One is judgment.
The other might just be an old story.
You Might Notice
An opportunity that makes you reconsider what you thought was possible
Someone recognizing something in you that you've been taking for granted
Feeling excited and doubtful about the same thing
Questioning an old assumption about your abilities
A conversation that changes your perspective
Thinking differently about money, success or personal value
Realizing how much experience you've accumulated without really noticing
Who This Week Feels Strongest For
Libra — The Sun in your sign forms a sextile with Jupiter, bringing opportunities for recognition, collaboration and growth into focus. With Venus, your ruling planet, retrograde, you may also be reconsidering what you want from your relationships and professional partnerships.
Leo — With Jupiter and Mars both in your sign, there's plenty of energy around ambition, creativity and personal direction. This week's favourable aspects with the Sun and Saturn may help you turn enthusiasm into something more substantial.
Aquarius — Pluto stations direct in your sign, drawing attention to long-term changes involving independence, influence and the direction your life is taking. Something you've been questioning privately may begin to take a clearer shape.
Aries — Saturn is retrograde in your sign, but its trine with Mars on October 16 favours applying experience and discipline to something you want to accomplish. You don't have to rush, but you may be ready to take an idea more seriously.
A Good Time To
Reconsider something you've previously dismissed
Ask questions before making assumptions
Recognize the value of your own experience
Listen when someone offers a different perspective
Look at an opportunity from both sides
Discuss money, expectations and responsibilities
Make a practical plan before committing
Remember that excitement and good judgment can coexist
Stop measuring yourself against who you were five years ago
