Eucalyptus is a genus of over 700 species of flowering trees and shrubs, with the majority of them native to Australia. Traditionally, the Aborigines used eucalyptus leaves to treat fevers, wounds, infections, aches, and colds. "Because of this, eucalyptus is often referred to as the Australian fever tree."
Eucalyptus Radiata (E. radiata), Eucalyptus Citriodora (E. citriodora), Eucalyptus Globulus (E. globulus), and Eucalyptus Smithii (E. smithii) share the same family roots with over 200 varieties of Eucalyptus trees; however, only about five trees are used to make essential oils. And, each of those essential oils has properties in common, and differs in many ways as well.
Eucalyptus comes from the root word Eucalyptos, meaning “well-covered”, and Eucalyptus essential oil, in general, is useful for overall health and wellness, and treating the body for many conditions.
What similarities exist among these four Eucalyptus essential oils? They share effectiveness in addressing respiratory conditions such as colds, flu, bronchitis, and pneumonia. Additionally, they prove beneficial for treating cuts, wounds, burns, inflammation, and skin infections. Each variant demonstrates efficacy against various pathogens like staph, E. coli, Salmonella, Candida, and H. pylori, making them excellent disinfectants for both the air and household surfaces. They are also versatile in soothing joint and muscle pain, making them valuable ingredients in massage oils.
