So we all know that essential oils are derived from plants. The most common method of extraction is steam distillation.
But did you know that you can get essential oils from something as simple as squeezing a lemon or crushing fresh herbs?
Sure, it’s not the best method to collect essential oils and store it in a bottle, but placing citrus slices and crushed herbs in a warm bath is a fantastic, visceral, and economic way of using aromatherapy at home!
Try foraging these herbs from your (or a friend’s) garden for a special bath time treat...
A handful of any combination of these herbs:
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis)
Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis)
Lavender leaves + flowers (Lavandula angustifolia)
Rose petals (any fragrant rose you may find)
Place all the plants you’ve collected in a mortar and pestle (or between two sheets of wax paper) and gently pound them until they are bruised and becoming juicy. Then place them into a cotton pouch or mesh bag and tie it to your faucet as your run your warm bath.
Place a few citrus slices in the water for added vitamin C and a fresh boost to your aromatherapeutic experience. Enjoy!
